| DRIFTING Growing popularity in both the United States and western Europe, drifting is rapidly causing a stir in the world of racing. Racers will go into a drift (slide) and rather than correct the slide - the car will be maneuvered into another slide. The ability to initiate consecutive drifts (slides) without the loss of speed while maintaining overall control of the vehicle - that is the drivers' goal. | ENKEI WHEELS COME OUT ON TOP AT MODIFIED SHOOTOUT AND REDLINE TIME ATTACK RECORD CHALLENGE AT BUTTONWILLOW RACEWAY FORT WORTH, TX - May 21, 2007 - Modified Magazine held its first ever Tuner Shootout at California Speedway in Fontana, CA, in February. They invited ten of North America's best tuners to compete head to head in an all-out battle for top honors for a grueling two-day test-fest. Enkei is proud to say that when the smoke cleared, it was Enkei wheels that came out on top. Enkei played a pivotal role in earning the overall title for AMS Performance during Modified Magazine's "Tuner Shootout 2007." The results of the magazine's extensive competition are featured in its June issue, which is on newsstands now. "We pitted 10 of the top tuner cars in America against each other in four classic time-based performance tests at California Speedway," said David Pratte, senior writer for Modified. "The Modified Tuner Shootout was designed as a no-holds-barred competition, meaning we placed no limitations on level of car preparation, tire choice, driver choice, or any other aspect of event strategy. Simply put, we wanted the best tuner shops to bring out their fastest machinery and most talented drivers so that our readers and the entire tuner industry could see what's possible when the gloves come off and the only thing that matters is speed." The top winner, AMS Performance Mitsubishi Evolution Lancer VIII, which earned first overall in the event, ran with 18" Enkei RPF1 wheels. In addition to the winner, Enkei wheels were also on two other top ten finishers. Ron Escue, Enkei's Vice President of Sales and Marketing, commented, "Enkei wheels consistently offer dramatic proof of their value in motorsport events worldwide." Escue further remarked, "Our national media campaign for the past year has focused on the simple, but accurate testimonial: Enkei - first on the track/ first on the street and we prove it every day. In addition to its outstanding performance at the Modified Tuner Shootout, Enkei wheels helped JIC USA break the Cyber EVO Time Attack Lap Record at Redline Time Attack in Buttonwillow Raceway. The Hankook Tire / JIC USA came with a mission to win this event and break the course lap record. Running 18" Enkei NT03+M wheels, the team had achieved a record setting lap time of 1:48.766, which was officially the fastest lap in Time Attack format at Buttonwillow, and was the most sought after record beating the notorious "Cyber Evolution 8". |
